The Board of Directors of Native American Professional Parent Resources (NAPPR), Inc. announced today it has selected Michael A. Rivera to be the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Rivera brings more than 25 years in senior executive leadership of which 10 are in the non-profit and tribal government sectors. His professional career has focused on building community and organizational capacity using a bottom-up, inside-out approach. Mr. Rivera replaces Jane Z. Larson, who stepped down last year after heading NAPPR for more than 28 years

Prior to joining NAPPR, Rivera served as Executive Director of Five Sandoval Indian Pueblos, Inc. where he provided leadership, oversight, and management of multiple culturally appropriate social service programs for over 8,000 members of five tribal communities in Sandoval County. He also served as the State Director of the New Mexico Small Business Development Center in Santa Fe where he provided leadership to a statewide network of 20 small business centers.
Mr. Rivera holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Public Administration from the University of New Mexico. He is a Certified Trainer in Total Quality Theory and Process from Productivity Quality Systems based in Dayton, Ohio. As a private consultant, he was able to secure over $35 million in Federal, state and private foundation grant funding for dozens of Tribal, non-profit and educational institutions. Over the years he has led the efforts for organizations to receive several notable performance awards from the U.S Small Business Administration, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency; University of California, Quality New Mexico, Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Grande Minority Purchasing Council.
